Health Promotion
The Heart and Stroke Foundation of Alberta, NWT & Nunavut (HSFA) provides information about heart disease, stroke, healthy lifestyles, research and statistics. One way in which we inform the public is through our Resource Centre, which contains a wide variety of printed literature and a video lending library. Additionally, we offer numerous educational programs, such as
Living With Stroke - an interactive program developed for stroke survivors and their caregivers.
Research
• New drugs to protect the brain from permanent damage during stroke
• Gene therapy to prevent heart and blood vessel disease
• New devices for grafts and heart valves
• New treatments in heart rhythm disorders preventing stroke
• Growing heart cells so damaged hearts can be healed
• Understanding the root causes of high blood pressure, so that it can be stopped before it becomes permanent
• Better means of diagnosing and treating heart disease in women
• Correction of congenital heart defects - before birth!
Fundraising
The Heart and Stroke Foundation of Alberta, NWT & Nunavut is dedicated to improving the health and quality of life for all Canadians. The HSFA offers a wide range of events across the province and the proceeds raised from these events go directly to fund research, health promotion, and health education in heart disease and stroke.
